Abstract

Culture in a society is a certain value system that is used as a guide for life by citizens who support that culture. Because it is used as a frame of reference in acting and behaving, culture tends to become a tradition in a society. Understanding the environment and the adjustments made by the culture requires a careful observation and is carried out by several generations to arrive at a policy, namely carrying out traditions.

Most of the customs and cultures practiced in Gorontalo are related to islamic teachings. The customs and culture that are the result of localization by the Gorontalo people prove the existence of cultural acculturation that produces these Islamic customs and culture. Cultural acculturation is a fusion of two cultures that then produces a new culture without losing the distinctive features of the original culture.

Gorontalo, in general, the celebration of the birth of the Prophet was carried out by the community by conducting religious lectures to remind Muslims to always revive the practice of Quran and Sunna as a form of love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW, which begins in the evening until the morning in mosques. After dikili was carried out, it was continued with the distribution of food that had been arranged like a tower in a container called 'Tolangga'. The food-filled tower is called 'Waalima'.
