KALIMAT TANYA DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS DAN BAHASA TIDORE SUATU ANALISIS KONTRASTIF

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT

     This research entitled “Kalimat Tanya dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Tidore: Suatu Analisis Kontrastifâ€. It aims at identifying, classifying, analyzing and also describing the forms and functions of interrogative sentences in English and Tidore language. This research used the descriptive method. The English data have been collected from several linguistic books, while the data of Tidore language have been collected by interviewing some informants who live in Tidore subdistrict, especially in Goto village, Tomagoba, Gamtufkange and Soa-sio village . To identified and classified the data, the writer used Quirk (1985), Aarts (2001), and Azar‟s (2003) theories and James (1980) and Whitman‟s (1970) theories to contrast both languages to find out the differences. As a result of this study, the forms of English interrogative sentences include (yes-no questions, wh-questions, alternative questions), and in Tidore language, there are (kalimat tanya dengan bentuk kata tanya, kalimat tanya berdasarkan fokus kalimat dan kata tanya, kalimat tanya tanpa kata tanya, kalimat tanya jo-ua, kalimat tanya alternatif, dan kalimat tanya embelan).The functions of the English and Tidore language interrogative sentences include: specific information, asking for future opportunities, asking for help, asking for permission, asking for offers and suggestions, asking for actions and conditions for a limited period of time, asking about the past, past behaviors and situations, daily activities and habits, asking for places, origins, asking reasons, asking for methods and opinions, asking for options, asking for time, asking for quantities. The differences between English interrogative sentences and Tidore language, three forms of English interrogative sentences, and six forms of Tidore language. English interrogative forms use auxiliary verbs, but Tidore language does not have auxiliary verbs. English question words appear only at the beginning of a sentence, but in Tidore language they appear before, in the middle, and at the beggining of a sentence.
