Abstract

ABSTRACT

The research entitled ‘Derivational Affixes in English and Balantak language (Analysis Constrastive)’ written as a research to describe and analyze the derivational affixes in term of form, function, and meaning in verb, noun, adjective, and adverb. Beside that, this researh describes the reletionship between English and Balantak language an d mostly used affixes.

This research uses descriptive method. Those data were taken from a New Testament that has translated in Balantak Language by Boob, dkk (2010), and from informan. Later, by identification, classification, and analyzing derivational affixes according to their form, function, and meaning using O’Grady’s method (1992).

The result of this invetigation are,. English and Balantak language has derivational affixes formj, verb, noun, and adjective. And in English language has not a full reduplication and in Balantak language have a fulol reduplication, in also English language have a prefixes and sufixes from adverb, whereeas in Balantak language only have sufixes.

Theoritically, this research give more find concrete word constribution to knowledge about the derivational affixes. Practically, this research cuold help the reader, especially the students at the Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University in English Department for getting more information about derivational affixes and for upgrading research.
