Abstract

Abstract: Neonatal sepsis is a systemic response to infection caused by bacterias, virus, fungi, and protozoa within the first 28 days after birth. In neonatal sepsis, inflammation of the entire body occurs in response to infection. If during the aforementioned inflammation process a homeostasis between proinflammatory and anti inflammatory cytokine was not present, a maladaptive inflammatory process will occur which will cause multiple organ dysfunction that most often manifest as acute renal impairment. This study was aimed to identify renal function in neonatal sepsis patients admitted to Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Hospital during July 2016 to June 2018. This was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Samples were all neonatal sepsis patients that conduct renal function examination using glomerular filtration rate (GFR) as measurement instrument of the research. Out of 405 samples, 75,80% neonatal sepsis patients had decreased GFR level. Conclusion:  Neonatal sepsis patients often experienced decreased renal function.

Key Words: GFR, neonatal sepsis, renal function.
