Abstract

Kata kunci : stroke kronik, Forced Expiratory Volume in one second, Forced Vital Capacity, kinesio taping, Fungsi Paru.

ABSTRACT

Purpose : To analysed the effects of kinesio taping in chronic stroke on the pulmonary function

Material and Methods: This study uses an experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test group design. The subject were chronic stroke survivors at the Medical Rehabilitation Installation, Prof. Dr. R.D. Kandou General Hospital Manado who had chronic stroke with hemiparesis , 30-65 years old.  The subject of research are twenty two participants who met the inclusion criteria. Twenty participant had finished the kinesio taping therapy. Each participant was applied kinesio taping on back muscles (vertical paraspinal strips and oblique strips). Four tapes of 5 cm wide elastic tape were used with the tape stretch was applied at 50%. The tape was applied for 3 days then removed for 24 hours to allow skin perspiration and then a new one was reapplied again and the procedure was repeated 3 times. Each participants were measured their Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) and Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second (FEV1) as the pulmonary function outcome by using spirometer. Pulmonary function were measured before and after kinesio taping therapy.

Results: There was a statistically significant improvement of pulmonary function in chronic stroke after kinesio taping therapy. There was significant improvement between before and after intervention in Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) with p<0.001 and Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second (FEV1) with p < 0,012.

Conclusion: Kinesio taping therapy on back muscles can improve pulmonary function (FVC and FEV1) in chronic stroke.

Keywords: Chronic Stroke, Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second, Forced Vital Capacity, Kinesio Taping, Pulmonary Function.
