Abstract

Coral reefs are a type ecological ecosystem found in the tropical shallow oceans, with rock coral as the main constituent element and a variety of many other biota living alongside it. While corals are invertebrate animals that belong to the Phylum Coelenterata (hollow animals) or Cnidaria a collection of millions of polyp animals that produce lime (CaCO3). The underwater photo transect (UPT) method makes use of recent developments in technology, including digital camera and computer software. Data can be retrieved in the field by capturing underwater images with a camera that has a waterproof and an excellent or high image resolution. In this study showed the percentage value of living corals at Research Site 1 which is 41.90%. Then at the Research Site 2 value the percentage of live coral cover 19.10%. Overall, the percentage of live coral cover on Malalayang Dua Beach in Manado City, North Sulawesi, is 30,50% of the existing coral reef area of ±820 m2, finally putting to place the condition of the coral reefs on the beach in the Medium category.
