Abstract

ABSTRACT

The global target for exclusive breastfeeding in infants according to WHO was 50% of infants get exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months from birth and based on data from WHO globally only 40% of infants under 6 months received exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between determinants of maternal age, smoking status, type of labor, contraceptive use, mother’s education level, mother's occupational status, the use of pacifier bottles, infants age, infants sex and infants weight at birth, ANC visit, residential area and wealth index with exclusive breastfeeding last 24 hours. Method: this study was a quantitative study using a cross sectional research design. The data used secondary data that were taken from the 2017 IDHS, conducted in 34 provinces in Indonesia with a total sample of 1523 infants aged 0-6 months. Data were analyzed using binary logistic regression with a simple regression test and multiple regression tests. Results: mother's education level (Ï = 0.005, AOR = 1.757), the use of pacifier bottles (Ï = <0.001, AOR = 0.040), infants age 4-5 months (Ï = 0.001, AOR = 0.355), 6 months (Ï = <0.001, AOR = 0.143). The level of mother's education, the use of pacifiers and the age of the infant categories 4-5 months and 6 months were associated with exclusive breastfeeding last 24 hours in infants 0-6 months in Indonesia.
