FUNGSI INTERNAL DAN KATEGORI FRASE NOMINA DALAM JOURNAL OF THE POETIC AND LINGUISTIC ASSOCIATION VOL 11 (ANALISIS SINTAKSIS)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research entitled “Internal Functions and Categories of Noun phrase in the Journal of the Poetic and Linguistic Association Vol. 11 (Syntactic Analysis)” is the requirement to accomplish the Bachelor Degree in English Linguistic at Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. This research aims to identify, classify and analyze the internal functions and categories of noun phrase which found in the Journal of the Poetic and linguistic association.
The theory that is used in this research by Aarts and Aarts (1982). Moreover, the method used in this research is descriptive method. The data of internal functions and categories of noun pharse is taken from the sentences in the article entitled Metaphorical Proposition : a rationale of the Journal of the Poetic and Linguistic Association Vol 11.
The result of this research shows that from 255 noun phrases, the internal functions which found are 60 functions of head, 38 determiners, and 157 modifiers. Those internal functions classified more into 4 predeterminers, 30 central determiners, 4 postdeterminers, 51 premodifiers, 87 postmodifiers and 19 discontinuous modifiers. Moreover, the categories that found in this research are noun and pronoun in the structure of head, definite article, indefinite article, demonstrative pronoun, possessive pronoun, cardinal number, ordinal number and kuantifier in the structure of determiner, and also adjective phrase, noun phrase, prepositional phrase, finit clause and non finit clause in the structure of modifier.
The writer also found a form of category of the internal function which is not mentioned in Aarts and Aarts theory. It is adjective phrase premodified by adverb phrase in the structure of premodification of noun phrase. On the other hand, there are some forms of categories which are mentioned in the theory but not found in the journal. They are adverb phrase in the structure of premodification , adjective phrase, noun phrase and adverb phrase in the structure of posmodification of noun phrase.
