Abstract


ABSTRACT This research is entitled "Penggunaan YouTube Untuk Melatih Keterampilan Mendengar Dalam Bahasa Inggris (Ditinjau Dari Persepsi Mahasiswa)". The objectives of this research are to identify and analyze the students’ perception on YouTube in increasing English listening skills and how students using learning strategies based on O'Malley and Chamot (1990) theories. The learning strategies based on the function are metacognition, cognition, affection, and social. The writer uses qualitative methods in order to find out students' perception about YouTube as educational media and learning strategies used by students. The location of data collection was among the students of English Department at the Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. The writer selected 10 students who used YouTube media as the data of this research. The instruments of this research were interview and semi-structured question. The results of this research showed that there were variety perceptions of using YouTube to increase listening skills and there were also the learning strategies that the students used in learning English through YouTube media.
