                                                  ABSTRAK

     This research entitled “Permintaan Sopan Santun dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Tondano (Suatu Analisis Kontrastif)”. This research is a requirement for getting the title called Sarjana Sastra in the Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. This research aims to identify, classify, analyze and describe the forms of polite request in English Language and Tondano Language. This research uses the theory from Leech that politeness as an attitude that reduces the impolite aspect of an interaction and Lado’s that contrastive analysis is a way to distinguish language elements in terms of meaning and distribution between two languages to find similarities and differences in language. The method used in this research was descriptive approach.The English data were taken from books contained about politeness and pragmatics. The Tondano data were collected by interviewing 5 informants who are the Tondano native speakers. The results of this research show that English language and Tondano language have similarities and differences in term of the form of polite request. English language consists of 4 positive forms of polite request and 3 negative forms of polite request. The positive forms of polite request in English language show as could you please, would you please, would you mind, would you like, and the negative forms of polite request show as could you please + not, would you please + not, would you mind + not. Tondano language consists of 2 positive forms of polite request and 1 negative form of polite request. The positive forms of Tondano’s polite request show as toro + kou and kawisa + kou. The negative form of Tondano’s polite request shows as toro+tia.
