This research is an attempt to describe and analyze kinship terms in English and Buli language. The problems of this research namely "what are the kinship terms in English and Buli language and what are the differences and similarities of both languages." The method used in this research is a descriptive method. The theories used in this research are Burling and Lounsbury’s theories to analyze the kinship terms, and Lado's theory to contrast both languages. The English data were collected from several relevant books, articles, journals and previous thesis about kinship terms that have been done before, whereas the data about the kinship terms in Buli language were collected from the informants. The data were taken by interviewing the informants who are native speakers of Buli and can speak the Buli language fluently. The results of this research showed that the kinship terms in English and Buli are divided into cosanguineal and affinal terms which are differentiated between sex, that are distinguished into ‘male’ and ‘female’in English and 'man' and 'maping' in Buli language, generations are divided into generations above ego, generations under ego and generations equivalent to ego, lineage that are divided into two parts, namely lineal and collateral lineages, as well as the age termed 'tan mamagal' is older and ‘tan nenena’is younger in Buli. English and Buli have similarities in kosanguinal terms, namely there are four generations above the ego and four generations below the ego. Sex in English and Buli is very important because it has different terms to greet male and female relatives. The lineage in terms of afinal relatives in English and Buli both refers only to the collateral lineage, because its relatives came from the same ancestor but not from a single direct descendant. English and Buli have differences in afinal terms, namely in English there are two generations above the ego and two generations below the ego, but in Buli language only has one generation above the ego and one generation below the ego. The kinship terms in Buli language have the same term used to greet some relatives whereas in English has not the case. In English the principle of age is not very important while in Buli the principle of age is very important, because the age can distinguish the older and the younger.
