                                                    ABSTRACT

     This research is entitled “Kalimat Tanya dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Tonsea: Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. This study is an attempt to describe, analyze and contrast the English and Tonsea language which focuses on the interrogative sentences in relation to their form and function in both languages. The problem in this research is what are the forms and function of interrogative sentences in English and Tonsea language and, what are the similarities and difference in the forms and function between two languages. In terms of methodology, the writer used descriptive method and contrastive analysis. The data of the English language were collected from book of Aarts (2001), whereas the data of Tonsea language were collected by interviewing, write every conversation and make a list. The result of this study show that these two language have differences as well as similarities. The similarities of two language are found in form of interrogative sentences and function of question word of both languages are the same. Then the difference is that the interrogative sentence ‘yes’ or ‘no’ has sixteen function in English, while the Tonsea language fits the context and there are four similarities and six differences between both languages.
