                                                   ABSTRACT

     Politeness is generally related to the relationship between two participants which can be referred to as ‘one self’ and ‘others’. This study entitled “Prinsip-Prinsip Kesopanan dalam Film Heaven is for Real Karya Randal Walace (Suatu Analisis Pragmatik)” focused on maxim related to the politeness principles. The problems of this research are: what are the types of politeness principles in film Heaven is for Real by Randall Walace and what are the functions of politeness principles in film Heaven is for Real by Randall Walace. The purpose of this research is to identify, classify and analyze the types and functions of politeness principles in the film Heaven is for Real. The research used a descriptive method. The data were collected from conversation among characters, then classified and analyzed them according to the concept of Leech’s theory. The result shows that there are six maxims of politeness and their functions applied by the characters in their dialogues, they are: tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim and sympathy maxim. It is expected that this research will help the students and readers in learning pragmatic aspects, especially about politeness principles.
