Abstract

Sea cucumbers are one of the marine biotas which consist of high nutritional and protein content. One bioactive compound in sea cucumbers is triterpenoid with antifungal and anti-bacterial properties. This study aimed to obtain fungal symbionts derived from marine cucumbers from Molas Waters, North Sulawesi continued by extraction and testing their antibacterial property towards bacterial strains Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. In the results, we found 3 species of sea cucumbers from Molas Waters, e. g. Holothuria atra, Bohadschia argus and Holothuria scabra. From these species, three isolates of fungal symbionts were isolated and tested for their antibacterial property. These three extracts array antibacterial activity against E. coli and S.aureus. The most potent antibacterial activity was found in the extract of fungal symbiont from H. atra with an average of 29.3 mm against E.coli and 28.0 mm against S.aureus.
