Abstract

ABSTRACT

Fish aggregating devices (FADs) are one of the fishing devices widely used by traditional fishermen in the bay of Manado to attract a group of fish to stay around so they can be easily caught. Surface FADs are floating structures anchored to the sea bottom. The floating structure always moves within a coverage area. This research was done to study the FADs coverage area in Manado Bay in September and October 2015 based on FADs positions measured hourly. The results showed that the length of anchor rope determines the size of coverage area, and the movement of FADs did not have a clear pattern and did not form a circle. The unorganized pattern was due to currents, winds, or the combination of the two.

ABSTRAK

Rumpon merupakan salah satu alat bantu penangkapan ikan yang banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat nelayan tradisional di daerah Teluk Manado untuk menarik kelompok ikan berkumpul sehingga mudah ditangkap. Rumpon permukaan merupakan bangunan terapung yang diikat pada suatu titik di dasar perairan (jangkar). Posisi rumpon di permukaan berpindah-pindah dalam suatu wilayah cakupan. Penelitian ini di lakukan untuk mengetahui luas cakupan-pergerakan rumpon di perairan Teluk Manado pada bulan September dan Oktober 2015 berdasarkan pengukuran posisi-posisi rumpon setiap jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa panjang tali jangkar menentukan luas cakupan, dan pergerakan rakit rumpon tidak teratur dan tidak membentuk sebuah lingkaran. Ketidak-aturan ini disebabkan oleh arus, angin, atau kombinasi dari keduanya.
