Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate water quality and analyze the growth of Sangkuriang catfish during the culture period, while also comparing the relationship between water quality parameters and fish growth. The study was conducted using an experimental method in three concrete ponds. Water quality parameters observed included temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, which were measured periodically. Fish growth was observed through measurements of weight gain and absolute growth throughout the study. The results showed that the water quality was within the acceptable range for catfish cultivation, with pH 6.89–8.08, DO 4.20–5.12 mg/L, temperature 26.1–27.9°C, ammonia 0.03–0.16 mg/L, nitrite 0.010–0.023 mg/L, and nitrate 1.0–2.3 mg/L. All these parameters were still within the tolerance limits for catfish life. Fish growth showed a consistent increase in weight across all ponds, with the highest absolute growth value obtained in pond 3, followed by pond 2 and pond 1. This growth pattern was in line with the stability of water quality during maintenance. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that well-maintained water quality within the optimal range has a positive effect on the growth of Sangkuriang catfish. Proper water quality management in concrete ponds can create an environment that supports optimal fish metabolism and growth.
