Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal growth and survival rates of payangka fish juveniles cultured at different salinities. The study was conducted as an experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments, which were four levels of salinity,  0, 10, 20, and 30 ppt, where each treatment was triplicated. Payangka juveniles were collected from Lake Tondano, with an average initial body length of 1.71 cm and an average body weight of 0.043 g.   Data on total body length and weight were collected at the beginning of the experiment and every 10 days during the 65-day experimental period. Growth parameters analyzed included absolute, relative, and specific growth of length and weight of the individual fish,  as well as survival rate. Data were analyzed statistically using Analysis of variance. The results showed that payangka juveniles cultured at 20 ppt salinity exhibited the best growth and survival rates: absolute length and weight growth were 0.627 cm and 0.070 g; relative length and weight growth were 37.840% and 133.58%; daily length and weight growth rates were 0.665% and 1.767%; and the survival rate was 75.0%. However, statistical analysis using ANOVA revealed that the tested salinity levels did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) on any of the growth parameters or the survival rate of the payangka juveniles. Thus, it can be concluded that juvenile payangka fish are capable of surviving and growing well within a salinity range of 0 to 30 ppt.
