Abstract

ABSTRACT

Background: Oral health related to aging in elderly is gaining global attention because it is an important component of general health. The concept of general fuctional decline via decrease oral function is pionneering by Japan Geriatrics and Gerontology Study Group in 2014. Muscles are one of the organs that are decline regarding with the aging process. Sarcopenia is a progressive and accelerated muscle loss syndrome in mass, function and strength, and this is a whole body process. It can occur in the elderly 60 years but also it can occur earlier in life. Several studies have reported the association of oral hypofunction and sarcopenia in elderly. Method:This literature review performed the internet database in 10 years before 2022,in International Journal in English. Aim: In this literature review, we aim to describe the available study of oral hypofunction and sarcopenia.

Keywords: Oral, health, oral hypofunction, Sarcopenia, muscle, literature
