Hubungan antara Kebiasaan Pemeliharaan Gigi Tiruan Lengkap Akrilik dan Penumpukan Plak

Abstract: Every denture wearer should know how to use and maintain their dentures. Good denture maintenance habit can prevent plaque accumulation and oral cavity disorders. This study aimed to determine the correlation between preserving full denture acrylic habit and plaque accumulation. This was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. Subjects were residents at Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia (nursing home for elderly) who wore full denture. Subjects were given questionnaire about preserving full denture habit using Likert scale, and plaque accumulation were examined with disclosing solution using the Ausberger and Elahi methods. Data were analyzed with the Spearman’s rho test. The results obtained 20 residents as subjects. There were 10 subjects (50%) with good habit of preserving full denture; eight subjects (40%) with fair habit; and two subjects (10%) with poor habit. All subjects had plaque accumulation; light plaque in 10 subjects (50%); moderate plaque in seven subjects (35%); heavy plaque in three subjects (15%). The Spearman’s rho showed a correlation between preserving full denture acrylic habit and plaque accumulation (r=0.608; p=0.004). In conclusion, there is a positive correlation between the habit of preserving full denture acrylic and plaque accumulation among residents of Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia, Grogol-West Jakarta.

Abstrak: Setiap pemakai gigi tiruan sebaiknya mengetahui cara menggunakan dan memelihara gigi tiruannya. Kebiasaan pemeliharaan gigi tiruan yang baik dapat mencegah terjadinya akumulasi plak serta kelainan pada rongga mulut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kebiasaan pemeliharaan gigi tiruan lengkap akrilik dan penumpukan plak. Jenis penelitian ialah observasional dengan desain potong lintang. Subjek penelitian ialah lanjut usia (lansia) penghuni Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia yang menggunakan gigi tiruan lengkap (GTL). Subjek diberikan kuesioner kebiasaan pemeliharaan GTL yang menggunakan skala Likert dan dilakukan pemeriksaan plak dengan disclosing solution menggunakan metode Ausberger dan Elahi. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji Spearman’s rho. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan 20 lansia sebagai subjek penelitian. Subjek dengan kebiasaan pemeliharaan gigi tiruan yang baik sebanyak 10 lansia (50%); kebiasaan yang kurang baik sebanyak delapan lansia (40%); dan kebiasan yang tidak baik sebanyak dua lansia (10%). Seluruh subjek memiliki akumulasi plak; sebagian besar plak terlihat tipis yaitu sebanyak 10 lansia (50,0%); plak sedang sebanyak tujuh lansia (35%); dan plak banyak sebanyak tiga lansia (15%). Uji Spearman’s rho menunjukkan korelasi antara kebiasaan pemeliharaan gigi tiruan lengkap akrilik dan penumpukan plak (r=0,608 dan p=0,004). Simpulan penelitian ini ialah terdapat korelasi positif antara kebiasaan pemeliharaan gigi tiruan lengkap akrilik dan penumpukan plak pada lansia Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia, Grogol- Jakarta Barat.
