Abstract

Abstract: Endodontic pain can inhibit activity and negatively impact patient's quality of life. This study aimed to find out the correlation between the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores and oral health-related quality of life using the General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) in endodontic patients. A total of 199 patients were referred to UNHAS RSGMP for endodontic treatment. The entire patient determined the intensity of the pain they were experiencing using VAS on a scale between 0 and 10. The patient was then instructed to fill out a 12-question GOHAI questionnaire. The statistical analysis used was the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that the average age of the patients in this study was 35.3 years, with the female patient dominating the samples (66.3%). The Spearman's correlation test showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between GOHAI scores and VAS scores, with an r-value of 0.177 and a p-value of 0,012. In conclusion, high intensity of pain correlates with low quality of life in endodontic patients, highlighting the need for dentists and endodontists to accurately execute endodontic pain, therefore, promptly improvement of endodontic patients' quality of life can be achieved.
