Efektifitas Berbagai Macam Teknik Penggunaan Topical Application Fluoride terhadap Karies Anak

Abstract: Fluoride can be utilized in two ways, systemically, through the digestion of the mineral; and locally, through the topical application of fluoride containing solutions. When fluoride is applied to tooth surface, the fluoride ions replace hydroxide ions in the hydroxyapatite crystals of the tooth form, which will promote remineralization by reducing tooth solubility. The direct approach of fluoride to the tooth base is known as topical fluoride application (TAF). This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of various topical application fluoride (TAF) application techniques on pediatric caries in the form of a systematic review. Article searching used google schoolar database, pubmed, web of science, and manual searching. The results obtained eight articles that met the criteria from 258 article searching results. The use of trays with fluoride gel was effective in reducing caries in children and adolescents. Fluoride varnish applied every 3-6 months could significantly reduce the incidence of dental caries. The use of fluoride mouthwash twice a day could reduce plaque and improve overall dental health. Regular use of fluoride toothpaste could reduce the incidence of caries by 30%. In conclusion, each type of topical fluoride application technique has its own superiority. Moreover, the right combination of techniques and frequency of application according to individual need provides the best result.

Abstrak: Fluorida dapat dimanfaatkan dengan dua cara, yaitu secara sistemik melalui pencernaan mineral oleh tubuh, dan secara lokal melalui aplikasi fluorida secara topikal menggunakan larutan fluorida. Ketika fluorida diaplikasikan pada permukaan gigi, ion fluorida menggantikan ion hidroksida dalam kristal hidroksiapatit pada bentuk gigi, yang akan meningkatkan remineralisasi dengan mengurangi kelarutan gigi. Pendekatan langsung fluorida ke dasar gigi dikenal sebagai aplikasi fluorida topikal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas berbagai macam teknik penggunaan topical application fluoride (TAF) terhadap karies anak dalam bentuk systematic review. Penelusuran menggunakan database google schoolar, pubmed, web of science, dan manual searching. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan delapan artikel yang memenuhi kriteria dari 258 hasil pencarian artikel. Penggunaan tray dengan gel fluoride efektif dalam mengurangi karies pada anak dan remaja. Fluoride varnish yang dioleskan setiap 3-6 bulan dapat mengurangi insiden karies gigi secara bermakna. Penggunaan obat kumur fluorida dua kali sehari dapat mengurangi plak dan meningkatkan kesehatan gigi secara menyeluruh. Penggunaan pasta gigi berfluorida secara rutin dapat mengurangi kejadian karies hingga 30%. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah setiap macam teknik aplikasi topical application fluoride yang tepat memiliki keunggulan masing-masing, serta kombinasi teknik dan frekuensi sesuai dengan kebutuhan individu memberikan hasil terbaik.
