Abstract: The craniofacial hard tissue of children with Down syndrome is known to have a small skull base that affects the hard palate described as being high-arched and narrow. Maxillary hypoplasia causes permanent changes in the morphology of the palate later on that can impact aesthetics and phonetics. This study aimed to obtain the maxillary intermolar length in children with Down syndrome. This was an observational study with a cross-sectional approach. Subjects were 25 children with Down syndrome at SLB Yogyakarta who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The palate and teeth were digitally scanned using a Shinning 3D Dental intraoral scanner, and then the intermolar length was measured using 3Shape 3DViewer. The result showed that the average intermolar length of the subjects was 45.8 mm. In conclusion, the average intermolar distance of the children with Down syndrome at SLB Yogyakarta was 45.8 mm This finding encourages more interdisciplinary work in the health sciences to optimize oral cavity function in Down syndrome.
