PENANGANAN FLUOROSIS GIGI DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN TEKNIK MIKROABRASI

Abstract: Dental fluorosis is a structural abnormality or deformity of tooth enamel which looks mottled (mottled enamel) as a result of excessive fluoride intake during tooth formation. Deformities involve the tooth form (hypoplasia) and abnormalities in tooth color (hypocalcification) that is characterized by the presence of shiny white spots as well as oblique lines and opaque or yellow to brown coloring of the enamel surface. Dental fluorosis is classified into four levels: very mild, mild, moderate, and severe. There are several techniques of treatment. Microabrasion technique is suitable for very mild to moderate level while veneering is more suitable for severe dental fluorosis. Microabrasion technique is aimed to remove caries and to eliminate fluorosis on the enamel surface. Teeth with dental fluorosis treated with microabrasion technique look more natural than those treated with other techniques.

Abstrak: Fluorosis gigi merupakan suatu kelainan struktur email bebercak atau cacat (mottled enamel) sebagai dampak asupan fluor berlebih pada masa pembentukan gigi. Gangguan yang terjadi berupa kelainan bentuk gigi (hipoplasia) dan kelainan warna gigi (hipokalsifikasi) ditandai dengan timbulnya bintik-bintik putih mengkilat, garis putih menyilang, warna buram, kuning sampai coklat pada permukaan email. Drental fluorosis diklasifikasikan atas empat tingkat yaitu sangat ringan hingga berat. Perawatan fluorosis dapat dilakukan dengan beberapa cara, antara lain dengan teknik mikroabrasi untuk tingkat sangat ringan hingga sedang, serta pelapisan bahan restorasi (veneering) untuk tingkat berat. Teknik mikrobrasi ditujukan untuk menanggulangi karies gigi dan menghilangkan fluorosis terbatas pada permukaan email. Perawatan fluorosis gigi dengan menggunakan teknik mikroabrasi dapat memberikan hasil yang terlihat lebih alami dibandingkan dengan teknik perawatan lain.
