Abstract

The diversity of ethnic groups in Indonesia allows for cultural patterns with their respective systems in each region. It gives birth to a pattern of thinking and behaving in the face of the environment and nature in the process of life and life of its supporters. One of them is that the Galela people have a tradition that they call the dina traditional ceremony which is performed after the death of a member of their family.

The traditional death ceremony is a form of respect for the deceased, where in its implementation there are several series of activities carried out or prepared by the family or the local community, such as bathing, fanning, snacking, and burying. However, in its implementation, the people of Tutumaloleo Village are not only up to these things, there are still several series of ceremonies, such as commemorating death on certain days and so on which have their own meaning for the community.

Dina's customary ceremony is performed after the body is buried on odd nights, for example the first night, the third night, the fifth night and the seventh night. On those nights the family of the deceased invited relatives as well as from other parties such as the village chief, (okapala), religious leaders and nearby neighbors. The implementation of the traditional ceremony of the Death Service in the people of Tutumaloleo Village goes through several stages, namely preliminary implementation, bathing, fanning, encroachment, burying and commemoration of the day of death.
