Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research is entitled “Obsesi Lara Cameron Dalam Novel The Star Shine Down Karya Sidney Sheldon†is intended as a requirement to accomplish the “Sarjana†degree at the Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University Manado.

This study aims at determining about the main character, Lara Cameron’s obsessions to reach whatsoever she wants through unusual ways which has caused her to have obsessive compulsive disorder. That obsessive compulsive disorder gives some impacts to her life which change her personality.

The theory used in this study is Wellek and Werren’s theory’s about extrinsic approach and use psychology theory about obsessive. This study used descriptive method in analyzing the data from the novel itself and some significant articles.

The result show that the main character Lara Cameron has the obsession compulsive disorder and obsessive compulsive personality compulsive. Lara Cameron has two Obsession: Obsession in work and Obsession with a man. The impact of Lara’s Obsessions make Lara have Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. Obsessive Compulsive personality disorder is a personality that has the characteristic’s  such as  do a lot of the perfect result, striving for flawless and set a high standard, making everyone else miserable by demanding the same excessive standards of perfection. The impact Lara’s obsession with a man to make her become a jealousy woman.
