PENGGUNAAN METAFORA PADA LAGU-LAGU QUEEN DALAM ALBUM A NIGHT AT THE OPERA

Abstract

                                                      ABSTRACT

     This research is entitled “Penggunaan Metafora Pada Lagu-lagu Queen Dalam Album A Night At The Opera†It is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this research is to analyze the use of metaphors in Queen’s songs of album A Night at the Opera. The basic reason of this research is on the semantics study for the categorization of meaning. The writer used 1 metaphor theory which is the theory from Leech (1984). The data of this research are taken from 11 out of 12 songs from the Queen of their album A Night At The Opera. In order of completing this research, the writer used the descriptive method of Creswell in his book “Research Designâ€(2014) to identify, describe and analyze the data. The result of this research shows that there are four kind of metaphors that occurred in the album, such as concretive metaphor, animistic metaphor, humanizing metaphor, and synaesthetic metaphor. Each metaphors has several unique meaning of a figure of speech in the lyrics of the songs.
