KEPAHLAWANAN DALAM FILM KINGDOM OF HEAVEN KARYA RIDLEY SCOTT

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT

    This research entitled “Kepahalawanan dalam Film Kingdom of Heaven Karya Ridley Scottâ€, and is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of thisstudy is to identify and classify the steps of hero’s journey reflected in the character Balian of the movie. The writer used the theory of Heroes Journey by Joseph Campbell (1949) to identify and analyze the step of hero’s journey of the film. The writer also used the theory of Literature by Wellek and Warren (1942) to identify the intrinsic approach such as the plot, theme, and character. In this research, the methodology applied is cualitative method by Jhonson (1953) whichi divide into 4 steps: Preparation, Data Collection, Data Analysis, and Working Schedule. The result of this research shows eleven out of fourteen stepsof the heroes’ journey as mentioned by Campbell. The steps include three major steps, they are: Departure, Innitiation, and Return.
