                           ABSTRACT
   Metaphor is a part of figurative language that compares one thing to another. Metaphor helps speakers or writers to describe about two different things. Metaphors are not only found in poems but also in songs. This study entitled “The Metaphorical Meanings in Album Paint My Love-Greatest Hits by Michael Learns to Rock†is an attempt to identify and classify kinds of metaphor, they are: structural metaphor, orientational metaphor, and ontological metaphor (container and personification). The method used in this research is descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer uses the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (2003) about metaphor conceptual theory to identify kinds of metaphor and Leech (1993) about the functions of metaphor. The results of this study show that there are 29 phrases containing structural metaphor, 18 phrases containing orientational metaphor, and 8 phrases containing ontological metaphor. Based on Leech’s theory, the writer gets six metaphorical functions, but in lyrics of the songs, the writer analyzes only four functions which are information function, poetic function, expressive function, and emotive function.
