MEDICAL REHABILITATION IN PATIENT WITH ACUTE EXACERBATION OF CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE (COPD)
Abstract
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a preventable and treatable disease state characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. The air flow limitation is usually progressive and is associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lungs to noxious particles of gases, primarily caused by cigarette smoking. COPD is a lung disease characterized by airway obstruction in the airways that is progressively non reversible or partial reversible. COPD consists of chronic bronchitis and emphysema or a combination of both. Daily symptoms such as chronic and progressive dyspnea, cough, and sputum production deserve the blame for the burden and lead to activity limitation and ultimately COPD patients inability to work and take care of themselves. Pulmonary rehabilitation is an essential part of the management of COPD, alleviating dyspnea and fatigue, improving exercise tolerance and health-related quality of life, and reducing hospital admissions and mortality in COPD patients.References
