Abstract

Some Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) eventually develop into End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Functional limitations have been observed not only in patients with ESRD and moderate-severe CKD. Therapeutic hemodialysis is often used to treat kidney failure. A large number of studies have examined the effects of exercise therapy during dialysis sessions. There are several therapeutic effects of intradialytic exercise in patients with ESRD. Intradialytic exercise prescribing in various studies often uses exercise guidelines based on the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommendations for CKD patients. In 2016, the ACSM recommendations were then applied in the recommendations for intradialytic exercises included in The Southern Alberta Renal Program (SARP).
