Abstract

In the final stages of life, old age, often self-contradictory, is my life meaningful enough? And the question will make an individual look into his experience so far. Wisdom is “virtue” or resolution at this stage. Those who feel proud and satisfied with their achievements will feel the sensation of integration, feelings of wisdom, and self-acceptance in the face of the end of life. On the other hand, someone who fails to face and undergo this stage of development will feel that their life is wasted, time is wasted, or meaningless, so feelings of disappointment, regret, bitterness, and hopelessness may arise. Even though the interest in aging is growing, unfortunately, negative generalizations, myths, and incorrect stereotypes about the aging process are also increasing. This erroneous understanding could be due to the influence of various factors, both from the general public and health workers, where the main factors are seen only from the physical side and the longevity of an individual. Often mental and cognitive problems are overlooked and considered something "ordinary" that these disorders are often experienced by elderly individuals. Whereas mental problems, especially mood disorders, are important in terms of successful management as well as a successful part and process of aging. Therefore, this refarat will discuss the problem of mental disorders in geriatrics and their management in the field of medical rehabilitation. It is hoped that readers will better understand and provide comprehensive and holistic medical rehabilitation management in geriatric cases with mood disorders.
