Abstract

DDH (Developmental dysplasia of the hip ) is a progressive developmental dysplasia in which defect can be seen in proximal femur, acetabulum and capsule that cause dislocation, and hip subluxation. DDH can be classified into atypical (10%) and typical (90%). Study showed that DDH incidence may vary between 1-7% in neonates with 1 from 1000 birth. The cause of DDH may be multifactorial that are ligament weakness, excessive femur antetorsion, excessive acetabulum antetorsion and intrauterine malposture. This disorder is closely related to hormonal, mechanical and genetic factor. DDH in children can be identified when they learn to walk and show the gait abnormality with subluxation or hip dislocation. If DDH persists until patient reach adult age can cause early arthrosis and pain during walking. The goals of DDH therapy in medical rehabilitation are to maintain the hip stability and stimulate normal hip morphological development. Conservative intervention in hip dislocation is implemented to achieve early intervention in children with early correction for DDH.
