Gambaran Kecerdasan Emosional Mahasiswa Kedokteran di Sulawesi Utara

Abstract: Medical students are known to undergo rigorous learning methods with heavy academic demands, making them more prone to experience psychological issues. Moreover, as future healthcare professionals, medical students are also required to uphold professionalism and demonstrate a high level of ethics and empathy. Therefore, the ability to manage, regulate, and utilize emotions to facilitate thinking, enhance empathy, and plan actions—skills encompassed in emotional intelligence—is essential. This study aimed to identify the level of emotional intelligence among medical student at a university in North Sulawesi. This was a quantitative and descriptive study using a survey technique with the Schutte Self Emotional Intelligence scale as the instrument. Respondents were 186 students of 7th of the Medical Study Program obtained by using the total sampling method. The results show that the emotional intelligence level of the respondents was high (77.4%) and moderate (22.6%); no students had low emotional intelligence. The highest scores were in the emotional perception aspect. In conclusion, the majority of 7th-semester students in the Medical Education Study Program at a university in North Sulawesi fall into the high and moderate categories, with none falling into the low category.

Abstrak: Mahasiswa kedokteran dikenal memiliki metode pembelajaran yang berat dengan tuntutan akademik yang membuatnya cenderung lebih sering mengalami gangguan psikologis dibanding mahasiswa lainnya. Sebagai calon tenaga medis, mahasiswa kedokteran juga dituntut untuk memiliki profesionalisme serta menjunjung etika dan empati yang tinggi, yang memerlukan kemampuan dalam mengelola, meregulasi, dan memanfaatkan emosi untuk memfasilitasi pemikiran, meningkatkan empati, dan merencanakan tindakan, yang terkandung dalam kecerdasan emosional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran kecerdasan emosional mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter (PSPD) di salah satu perguruan tinggi Sulawesi Utara. Metode penelitian ini deskriptif kuantitatif dan memakai teknik survei dengan menggunakan kuesioner Schutte Self Emotional Intelligence. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada 186 mahasiwa semester 7 PSPD dengan metode total sampling. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa tingkat kecerdasan emosional responden berada pada tingkat tinggi (77,4%) dan tingkat sedang (22,6%); tidak ada mahasiswa dengan tingkat kecerdasan rendah. Aspek pengaturan emosi diri mendapat hasil tingkat tinggi yang terbanyak. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah sebagian besar mahasiswa semester 7 Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter di salah satu perguruan tinggi di Sulawesi Utara termasuk dalam kategori kecerdasan emosional tinggi dan sedang, serta tidak ada dalam kategori rendah.
