Abstract: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant head and neck tumor that often occurs in Indonesia, with multifactorial causes such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, genetic factor, lifestyle, and environmental exposure. Symptoms include lumps in the neck, nosebleeds, and hearing loss. Diagnosis is made through clinical examination, biopsy, and imaging. Based on WHO, NPC is divided into three types, namely type 1 (keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma), type 2 (non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma), and type 3 (non-keratinizing undifferentiated carcinoma). The main treatment is radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of both. This study aimed to obtain the characteristics of NPC at Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou General Hospital Manado during the period January-June 2024. This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The results showed that from 46 NPC patients at Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou General Hospital, the majority of age group was 46-55 years (34.78%) and male gender (65.22%). The most common complaint was nosebleed (39,13%), and had stage IV (47.83%). The most common histopathologic result was type 2 (50%). The most widely used therapeutic modality was chemoradiation (39.13%). In conclusion, nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients are most commonly found in men, age group 46-55 years. The most common pathologic result found in patients is type 2 (non-keratinizing differentiated type) and the most widely used therapeutic modality is chemoradiation.

Berdasarkan WHO, KNF dibedakan menjadi tiga tipe, yaitu tipe 1 (keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma), tipe 2 (non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma), dan tipe 3 (non-keratinizing undifferentiated carcinoma).
