One of the common challenges faced by the community in managing cattle farming has been the reliance on manual reproduction methods. The drawback of using only manual reproduction is the limited increase in production and the inability to control the gender of the calves born. The separation of X and Y chromosome spermatozoa, known as sexing, can be implemented using the Percoll Density Gradient Centrifugation (PDGC) method. This method is advantageous because it is easy to apply, practical, valid, and cost-effective. Reproductive management still requires the application of practical technologies within farming groups to enhance the reproductive performance of cattle. This is necessary to increase livestock production in line with efforts to boost the productivity of cattle farming enterprises. The primary objective of improving cattle reproductive performance through sexing-based breeding is to increase the cattle population with the desired calf gender, enhance the birth rate and the quality of calves with the preferred gender, ensure the availability of replacement breeding stock, improve productivity and efficiency in cattle farming operations, and ultimately increase farmers' income and welfare through the application of sexing spermatozoa. The approach used involves outreach activities and training, including the introduction and demonstration of sexing technology using semen, as well as practical training in sexing techniques. The target partners for this initiative are cattle farmers in Kamasi Satu Village, Tomohon City. The training outcomes showed that participants gained an understanding of the sexing process for cattle spermatozoa to produce calves of the desired gender. Additionally, it has long-term benefits for sustainable cattle reproduction. By utilizing managed livestock, farmers can reduce dependency on natural cattle breeding and contribute to increasing the economic value of local livestock products.
