ABSTRACT

Forest onion (Eleutherine americana Merr.) tuber can treat cancer by pounding the tuber then squeezed and the water is drunk every morning. This study was observed macroscopically in the liver of wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) given ethanol extract of forest onion bulbs (Eleutherine americana Merr.). In vivo test on the liver of rats was carried out to determine the effect or effect of giving forest onion extract on the liver. The study was conducted using 30 wistar rats which were divided into three groups, namely (5mg/ml, 10mg/ml, 15mg/ml) given the ethanolic extract of forest onion bulbs orally, and a control group as a comparison. The treatment was carried out for 15 days by observing the rat's body weight and macroscopic observation of the rat's liver. This indicates that the administration of the ethanolic extract of forest onion bulbs did not give a significant change in the weight of the rats and the macroscopic appearance of the liver.

ABSTRAK

Bawang hutan (Eleutherine americana Merr.) bagian umbinya dapat mengobati penyakit kanker dengan cara menumbuk bagian umbinya kemudian diperas dan airnya diminum setiap pagi hari. Penelitian ini diamati secara makroskopis pada organ hati tikus wistar (Rattus norvegicus) yang diberikan ekstrak etanol umbi bawang hutan (Eleutherine americana Merr.). Uji in vivo pada organ hati tikus dilakukan untuk mengetahui efek atau pengaruh pemberian ekstrak umbi bawang hutan pada organ hati tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan 30 ekor tikus wistar yang dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok yaitu (5mg/ml, 10mg/ml, 15mg/ml) yang diberikan ekstrak etanol umbi bawang hutan secara oral, dan satu kelompok kontrol sebagai pembanding. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 15 hari dengan pengamatan berat badan tikus dan pengamatan makroskopis organ hati tikus. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan pemberian ekstrak etanol umbi bawang hutan tidak memberikan perubahan yang signifikan pada penimbangan berat badan tikus dan gambaran makroskopis organ hati.
