Efek Perbedaan Intensitas Latihan Resistance Elastic Band terhadap Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT)

Abstract


Abstract: Overweight can cause various degenerative diseases that must be controlled by doing physical activity. Resistance exercise is a type of physical activity that can increase the calories burned during fat burning so that it can affect Body Mass Index (BMI). The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of intensity of elastic band resistance exercise on BMI. This study was pretest-posttest control group design with 40 adult women. The subjects were divided into four treatments - low intensity, moderate intensity, high intensity, and control. Resistance exercise consists of three types of exercise for upper extremities and three types of exercise for lower extremities, each set consisting of three sets, 12 repetitions, and one minute of rest interval between exercises given three times every week for four weeks BMI calculation is done by dividing body weight in kilograms and height in meters squared before and after the intervention. Low intensity resistance exercise showed an increase in BMI (p=0.62), moderate intensity resistance exercise showed a decrease in BMI (p=0.24) and high intensity resistance exercise showed a decrease in BMI (p=0.04). Medium intensity and high intensity elastic band resistance exercises are effective in improving BMI in adult women.

Abstrak:  Overweight dapat menyebabkan berbagai penyakit degeneratif sehingga harus dikontrol dengan melakukan aktivitas fisik. Latihan resistance adalah jenis aktivitas fisik yang dapat meningkatkan kalori yang dibakar saat pembakaran lemak berlangsung sehingga dapat berpengaruh terhadap Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efek perbedaan intensitas latihan resistance elastic band terhadap IMT. Desain penelitian adalah pretest-posttest control group design dengan total 40 subjek wanita. Subjek dibagi ke dalam empat kelompok yaitu latihan resistance intensitas rendah, intensitas sedang, intensitas tinggi, dan kontrol. Latihan resistance terdiri dari tiga jenis latihan untuk ekstremitas atas dan tiga jenis latihan untuk ekstremitas bawah yang masing-masing terdiri dari tiga set, 12 repetisi dan satu menit interval istirahat yang diberikan sebanyak tiga kali setiap minggu selama empat minggu. Perhitungan IMT dilakukan dengan membagi berat badan dalam satuan kilogram dan tinggi badan dalam satuan meter kuadrat sebelum dan setelah intervensi. Latihan resistance intensitas rendah menunjukkan peningkatan IMT (p=0,62), latihan resistance intensitas sedang menunjukkan penurunan IMT (p=0,24) dan latihan resistance intensitas tinggi menunjukkan penurunan IMT (p=0,04). Latihan resistance elastic band intensitas sedang dan intensitas tinggi efektif memperbaiki IMT pada wanita.
