North Maluku is one of the provinces in Indonesia which is also rich in art and culture. Ternate City is also a city famous for its art and culture, Ternate City has traditional arts that have been passed down by its ancestors. Ternate society grows and develops with all its cultural diversity. One of them is the Cakalele dance, which is a traditional war dance used to welcome guests or in traditional celebrations.

The meaning of Cakalele dance is that it contains divine values and religious symbols. This can be seen by the rituals that must be performed by the dancer during the dance. there are also three messages implicit in the Cakalele dance, namely, regulating a good relationship with God, nature and man, and man with other humans. Cakalele dance also has meaning as a way for man to maintain his dignity and self-esteem.

This Cakalele dance was once performed in pairs, namely men and women, but now it is very rare to find dancing in pairs now all that is often found is only men, while women are no longer involved. Similarly, the accompaniment musical instruments used in Cakalele dance have now undergone changes, in the past people who held musical instruments in the form of tifa, gongs and bamboo flutes existed in the performance arena, but now it has changed that people who hold these traditional musical instruments are now replaced with electronic musical instruments only.
