Abstract


                                                     ABSTRACT

     The research is entitled “Drama Sebagai Metode Pengajaran Kemahiran Berbicara Bahasa Inggris Pada Anak-Anak Panti Asuhan Dr. J. Lucas Manado”. This research is aimed at: (1) describing the implementation of drama and its influence on the students, (2) describing the students’ responses toward the use of drama as a teaching method. The writer uses Holdens’ method to describe the implementation of drama on English teaching at Dr. J. Lucas Orphanage Manado. Furthermore, the writer also uses Davies’ method to discover the class activity in implementing drama that exploiting a scripted play, creating one’s own script, role playing and doing simulation were included. The result shows that English could be taught effectively through drama performance. Students could improve their ability to speak, pronounce, and learn new vocabularies by practicing and performing drama. The learning process was built through exploiting a scripted play, creating own’s script, role playing, and doing simulation that have an impact on learning English. In addition, students were also excited to study English using drama activities. Some of them had difficulty in pronouncing new vocabulary and performing their character in the drama at first, but after several weeks of simulation and monitoring, a progress was shown by the students through their drama performance.
