Abstract


                                                   ABSTRACT

       This study entitled “Conflictive Act in the Film Maze Runner by Wes Ball”. It is an analysis of pragmatic investigation that focuses on one aspect of speech acts called illocutionary act. It is an attempt to find the kinds and functions of illocutionary act in the film. The data have been taken from characters utterences in the film. The writer analyzed the data descriptively by concentrating on utterences which contain illocutions. The theory used in this research is Leech’s theory about illocutionary act classification. The finding of this research show that the kinds and function of the illocutionary that are found in the film “Maze Runner”. They are classified in four categories, those are threatening, reprimanding accusing and cursing. It is hoped that one kind of conflictive act that is not found in this research. However, It is expected that the study will help students and readers in learning pragmatics especially the conflictive act in the film. It is suggested for researchers to use another theory of illocutionary acts in other objects such as native language, novel, short story and many others.
