ABSTRACT
This research is entitled “Taboo Words in English and Kaidipang Language: A Contrastive analysis”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types of taboo words and to analyze the differences and similarities of taboo words in English and Kaidipang Language. This research used a descriptive method. The data were analyzed by using the theory of Wardhaugh (1986:230) to find out the types, and were contrasted to find out the differences and similarities using Lado’s theory (1957:2). Classification based Wardhaugh's theory, six types of taboo words were found including sex, bodily function, animals, death, excretion, and religion. In Kaidipang language there are ten types of taboo words, which are sex, bodily function, animals, death, excretion, religion, curse, devil, address terms, and activities. The result shows that the causes of using taboo words are to express the emotion, such as anger, happy, and surprises, to talk about sex, to joke, and to insult.
