                                                    ABSTRACT

This research entitled “Reduplication of English and Mongondow Language (A Contrastive Analysis)”, It is intended as a requirement for Sarjana Sastra degree in the Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. This research report aims to identify classify the form and meaning then to find out the similarities and differences according to Lado (1972) There are theories used in this research, namely Mattielo (2013) and Quirk and Greenbaum (1973) The data in English were collected from several linguistic books whereas the data of Mongondow lannguage were collected from informants. The result of this investigation shows that English reduplication include: full reduplication with the basic form of the word whole with no replica, with existing replication, shortened replica of the word, additional syllables, namely ablaut (repetition with changes in vowel phonemes, founds in the basic form of nouns, adjectives and verbs) and rhyming repetition or partial repetition with changes in consonant phonemes. Whereas Mongondow language includes complete reduplication in the basic forms of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and partial reduplication. English and Mongondow language have similarities in the form of complete and partial reduplications, but are limited to a few word classes. English and Mongondow language have differences, namely Mongondow language has a partial reduplication form at the beginning of the syllable while English does not have the reduplication form. Mongondow language has a form with an additional prefix, while in the reduplicated form, English does not have this reduplication form. English reduplication is very rarely used in informal situations, while Mongondow language reduplication is often used by people in everyday conversation.
