    BENTUK TAKSONOMI MAKANAN DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS DAN BAHASA                              MONGONDOW (SUATU ANALISIS KONTRASTIF)

                                                     ABSTRACT

     This research is entitled “Taxonomy of Food in English and Mongondow Language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. The objectives of this research are to classify, analyze, describe, the types and categories of food and beverages, and the basic ingredients in English and Mongondow language and find the similarities and differences between the two languages. This research uses a descriptive method. The data of food in English are collected from the Fanny Farmer cook book (1918), articles and online journals about food, and the data of food in Mongondow language obtained from doing a direct interview with the native speakers of Mongondow language, and clarified trough the attachment of photos of food that taken in cafes, restaurants and events such as weddings and thanksgiving. The data then identified, classified, and analyzed by using the theory of Frisch in Hickerson and the theory of Foley. The data contrasted by using Lado’s theory. The results of this research showed that English has 2 types taxonomy of food, namely solid food and beverages. The Mongondow language has 3 types of food, namely solid food, liquid / thick food, and drinks. English and Mongondow have similarities in the types and categories of food, namely, solid food and beverages. Solid foods include meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits, breads, and cooked foods. In the Mongondow language, one of the taxonomy categories of beverages is not found, namely alcoholic beverages, while in English there are two types and categories in the taxonomy of beverages, namely alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. English has many kinds of bread while Mongondow has many kinds of cakes. English has a type of drink made from wheat while Mongondow does not. In English wheat is the staple food for the people and rice is the staple food in the Mongondow language. Mongondow language has food with tubers and beans as the basic ingredients while in English it does not. In English there are 6 types of basic ingredients of food, namely meat, fish, fluor, wheat, fruits, and vegetables, and 5 types of basic ingredients for drinks, namely fruits, wheat, leaves, coffee, and milk. Mongondow language found 8 types of basic ingredients or main ingredients used in food, including tapu' “meat”, toya' “fish”, kuyat “vegetables”, fruit “fruits”, topong “flour”, bogat “rice”, tubers, and beans, also found 2 types of basic ingredients for drinks, namely “kopi” coffee and “daun” leaves.
