      ANALISIS KONFLIK DALAM NOVEL A TALE DARK AND GRIMM OLEH                                                          ADAM GIDWITZ

                                                       ABSTRACT

     This research is entitled “Analisis Konflik dalam Novel A Tale Dark And Grimm Oleh Adam Gidwitz”. It is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this research is on the conflicts and causes of conflicts experienced by the characters in A Tale Dark and Grimm novel. The writer used the theory of conflicts by Stanton in his book “An Introduction to Fiction” (1965) to identify, analyze and describe, and used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data. She also used an intrinsic approach to focus only on the text in the book. The result of this research shows that there are 14 internal conflicts and 14 causes of internal conflict, namely; 1) Johannes dan Dirinya Semdiri (1 internal conflict and 1 cause of internal conflict), 2) Raja (3 internal conflicts and 3 causes of internal conflict), 3) Hansel and Gretel (3 internal conflicts and 3 causes of internal conflict), 4) Hansel (4 internal conflicts and 4 causes of internal conflict), 5) Tujuh Anak Lelaki (1 internal conflict and 1 cause of internal conflict), 6) Ibu Tujuh Anak (1 internal conflict and 1 cause of internal conflict), 7) Lord (1 conflict and 1 cause of internal conflict). 13 external conflicts and 13 causes of internal conflict, namely; 1) PenyihirLlawan Hansel (1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict), 2) Hansel Lawan Pemburu dan Anjing Pemburu (1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict), 3) Gretel Lawan Janda (2 external conflicts and 2 causes of external conflicts), 4) Gretel Lawan Alam (2 external conflicts and 2 causes of external conflicts), 5) Pemuda Tampan lawan Seorang Gadis(1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict), 6) Iblis Lawan Penjaga Kapal (1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict), 7) Kerajaan Lawan Naga (1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict), 8) Seorang Pria, Hansel dan Warga (1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict), 9) Gretel Lawan Naga (1 external conflict and 1 cause of external conflict). There is also 1 main conflict and 1 cause of main conflict. Each conflict has several unique causes towards the characters in the novel.
