Abstract

Mangrove forest can be found grow along the coast, or river estuaries which ist growth and develop is influenced by tides. The mangrove forest plays an important role as carbon sequester to combat global warming. The purposes of this study are to calculate the potential biomass of mangrove trees in the Ponto village and to estimate carbon stocks (C) storage and carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake by mangrove stands in Ponto village. The data collection method used in this research is the line transect quadratic method without damaging the object of the study. The data taken were mangrove tree biomass data. The data collection was carried out in 12 plots measuring (10 x 10 m2).All trees found within the plots were recorded for their number, type and diameter at breast height(DBH).This study found that a total of five mangrove spesies, namely: Rhizophora apiculata, Avicennia officinalis, Xylocarpus granatumBruguiera gymnorrhiza, and Ceriops tagal. Tthe highest density value was 1,500 trees/ha. Total tree biomass was 64,64-105,23 ton/ha, estimated carbon(C) content and carbon dioxide (CO2) mangrove were 30,38-49,46 ton C/ha to111,50-181,51 ton CO2/ha respectively.

Keywords : Mangrove, density, diameter, carbon, carbon dioxide
