ANALISIS TINGKAT KEMATANGAN GONAD DAN INDEKS KEMATANGAN GONAD PADA IKAN KAKATUA FAMILY SCARIDAE

Abstract


Reef fish are organisms that are abundant in coral reef areas. Various types of reef fish that we often encounter, one of which is parrot fish. These fish species were included in the Scaridae family. The existence of parrot fish has an important ecological role in maintaining the continuity and balance of the coral reef ecosystem. Fish reproduction is a fundamental aspect of fish recruitment that is important for the management and utilization of fishery resources as well as a key process for maintaining sustainable fish population within fishery resources management. The assessment of sex and the level of gonad maturity in its application can be a basic knowledge of reproduction. Gonads are reproductive organs found in fish that are divided into two, namely male fish gonads or testes and female fish gonads, namely ovaries. The level of gonad maturity of fish is needed to determine the spawning seasons so that the catch or exloitation rate could be controlled. This research was conducted to determine the level of gonad maturity phases in parrotfish and gonad development through gonad somatic status. Data collection in this study was carried out in the Tanahwangko and Bunaken Island waters within Bunaken National Park. The results of the catch for 6 months obtained male parrot fish with GMP (Gonad Maturity Phase) I to IV and female with GMP II to IV. From observations made on male and female samples, it was found that these two types of fish had almost the same gonad maturation period, namely in the 4th and 5th months.
