ABSTRACT

Dental caries is the most frequently encountered disease of the external surface of teeth. The disease is characterized by the destruction on the enamel (tooth cavities). Fluor serves to protect the teeth from caries, to prevent the enzymes producing acid and to bind calcium ions in order to strengthen the tooth enamel, especially in the growth age.The purpose of this study was to describe the degree of dental caries of children aged 12-14 years and the level of fluoride in drinking water that was consumed in Boyongpante Dua village. Descriptive study with cross sectional approach was applied in this research. This study used total sampling method and was conducted in Boyongpante Dua village. This research had 40 people respondents. Caries degree results was measured using DMF-T index and spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 525 nm was used for fluoride test. This study was conducted at the Laboratory of Dental Studies Program.Results of this study found that the mean value of the DMF-T of the children in the Boyongpante Dua village was 0.1 and the mean value of the fluoride level of the well water in Boyongpante Dua village was 3.54 ppm. From the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the degree of caries disease in Boyong Pante II village is in low status performance and has high fluorine content.The suggestion of this to government so that the government has accurate data and can be an example to other villages, and also can be made a water filtering to prevent fluoride. In addition, the results of this study provide a reference for use by the students of dentistry in particular by making further research.

ABSTRAK

Karies gigi adalah penyakit jaringan keras gigi yang paling sering ditemui. Penyakit ini ditandai dengan adanya kerusakan pada jaringan keras gigi itu sendiri (lubang pada gigi). Fluor berfungsi melindungi gigi dari karies dan untuk mencegah enzim yang memproduksi asam dan untuk mengikat ion kalsium supaya memperkuat enamel gigi khususnya dalam usia pertumbuhan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran derajat karies gigi anak-anak usia 12-14 tahun dan kadar fluor dalam air minum yang dikonsumsi di desa Boyongpante Dua. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deksriptif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Penelitian ini menggunakan  metode total sampling dan dilakukan di desa Boyongpante Dua dan  mempunyai responden penelitian berjumlah 40 orang. Hasil perhitungan derajat karies dihitung dengan indeks DMF-T dan uji fluor digunakan alat spektrofotometer dengan panjang gelombang 525 nm dan dilakukan di Laboratorium Program Studi Gisi.Hasil penelitian ini didapatkan nilai rerata status DMF-T pada anak-anak di desa Boyongpante Dua 1,53 termasuk kategori rendah dan nilai rerata kadar fluor air sumur di desa Boyongpante Dua 3,54 ppm,dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa derajat karies di desa Boyongpante Dua dalam status rendah dan kandungan fluor sangat tinggi.Saran yang diberikan kepada pemerintah supaya pemerintah mempunyai data-data akurat dan dapat menjadi contoh di desa-desa yang lain dan juga dibuat sarana penyaringan air untuk mencegah terjadinya fluorosis, selain itu diharapkan penelitian ini memberikan referensi untuk dapat dimanfaatkan oleh para mahasiswa kedokteran gigi khususnya dengan membuat penelitian lanjut.
