ABSTRACT

Garlic has been shown to have in vitro antibacterial activity. This research aims to investigate the in vivo antibacterial activity of Garlic bulbs (Allium sativum L.) ethanol extract against Klebsiella pneumoniae. 18 Balb/c strain mice were divided into 6 groups. Group 1 (normal control) was not infected with bacteria, group 2 (negative control), group 3 (positive control), group 4,5,6 (treatment groups) were  treated by fresh garlic bulbs with each dose 0,01456 g / 20 g body weight, 0,02912 g / 20 g body weight, and  0,05824 g / 20 g body weight in form of viscous extract. After 3 days of treatment, mice blood were isolated and cultured for 24 hours. As the result, fresh garlic bulbs with different doses such as 0,01456 g / 20 g body weight, 0,02912 g / 20 g body weight, and  0,05824 g / 20 g body weight in form of viscous extract was indicated to have in vivo antibacterial activity against K. pneumoniae, the percentages were 3,55%, 15,34%, and 22,25%.

ABSTRAK

Bawang putih telah terbukti memiliki aktivitas antibakteri secara in vitro. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol umbi Bawang Putih terhadap Klebsiella pneumoniae secara in vivo. 18 ekor mencit jantan galur Balb/c dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok. Kelompok 1 (kontrol normal) tidak diinfeksi bakteri, kelompok 2 (kontrol negatif), kelompok 3 (kontrol positif), kelompok 4,5,6 (kelompok perlakuan) diberikan dosis umbi bawang putih segar masing-masing 0,01456 g / 20 g BB, 0,02912 g / 20 g BB, dan  0,05824 g / 20 g BB dalam bentuk ekstrak kental. Setelah 3 hari perlakuan, dilakukan pengambilan darah mencit dan dikulturkan selama 24 jam. Kemudian dihitung jumlah koloni bakteri yang tumbuh dengan metode plate count. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dosis umbi bawang putih segar 0,01456 g / 20 g BB, 0,02912 g / 20 g BB, dan  0,05824 g / 20 g dalam bentuk ekstrak kental memiliki aktivitas antibakteri secara in vivo terhadap K.pneumoniae dengan persentase sebesar 3,55%, 15,34%, dan 22,25%.
