Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis (HD) is a therapy performed on patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing renal replacement therapy. In 2018, based on basic health research, the prevalence of CKD was 3.4%, and 19.3% of patients aged 15 years and over underwent HD, making it the 10th highest cause of death in Indonesia. This situation often causes morning anxiety disorder in each patient.

Aim: To determine the factors that influence anxiety disorders with CKD patients undergoing HD therapy.

Methods: The preparation of this literature review followed the PICOS guidelines. PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar were the databases used in collecting articles with relevant keywords.

Results: Several research articles suggest that factors that are often associated with anxiety disorders in patients undergoing HD therapy are age, gender, financial status, education, employment, family support, comorbid diseases, duration of HD, and one's mental state. These factors become a benchmark for how anxiety disorders can occur in patients. Based on the research that has been done, the factors that often occur and have a major impact on patients from the research that has been done are age, gender, period of undergoing HD, socioeconomic status of the patient, family support, comorbid diseases and adaptive attitudes such as accepting the conditions that patients have experienced, are very influential on CKD patients with HD therapy who experience anxiety disorders.

Conclusion: Anxiety disorder factors in CKD patients are age, gender, period of undergoing HD, socioeconomic, family support, comorbid diseases and the patient's adaptive attitude.
