Abstract

Background: Three mosquito genera commonly encountered are Anopheles, Aedes, and Culex. Each plays a role as vectors for malaria, dengue fever, and lymphatic filariasis, respectively. Data from the North Sulawesi Health Office report Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in the Kelurahan Bailang in 2022 amounted to 13 cases, and in 2023, there were 11 cases. Meanwhile, malaria cases recorded in the Kelurahan Bailang in 2022 totaled 6 cases.

Aim: to determine the population and identify the genera of adult mosquitoes captured during the night in Kelurahan Bailang Kecamatan Bunaken Kota Manado.

Methods: This research employs descriptive survey and sweeping as its catching methods, using nets and aspirators to catch mosquitoes. The catching takes place at night, between 19:00 until 01:00 Central Indonesia Time (WITA), conducted in six environments. It is carried out at two points within each environment, both indoors and outdoors.  The mosquitoes that were caught then were identified under microscope and using an identification key from the Departemen Kesehatan Republik Indonesia at the Parasitology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University.

Result:  There were 103 adult mosquitoes identified in this study. The most predominant genus was Culex spp, comprising 102 mosquitoes (99%), followed by Aedes mosquitoes with only 1 specimen (1%). Meanwhile, Anopheles spp was unknown. Male mosquitoes were predominantly, and the most genus of adult mosquitoes found outdoors are 52 mosquitoes with the most found in environments 2 and the majority of adult mosquitoes of different genera were found outdoors.

Conclusion: The most dominant mosquitoes caught were Culex spp mosquitoes, while Anopheles spp was unknown.
